Transport of organised groups. Volunteer drivers and escorts needed

On the Mini Bus Scheme volunteers provide transport for groups and voluntary organisations to local centres, visits to places of interest and social activities. Can you help by being a volunteer driver/escort?

All drivers and escorts will be required to attend relevant training courses and will need to complete a criminal records bureau check.

Q1. How much time do I need to give?

As much or as little as you want. You can drive or escort on a regular basis or be flexible and help when you can.

Q 2. What notice will I get?

We will always give you as much notice as possible but you can always say no if you are unavailable.

Q 3. Will I get any help with my expenses?

The only cost to you is your time. You will receive reimbursement to cover the cost of travel to and from the mini bus plus if you are out all day with a group you will receive a lunch allowance which is currently £5.

Q 4. What do I need to have to become a volunteer driver?

  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Must be over 25
  • Telephone/Mobile
  • Liking for people

Any training and support that is needed will be provided by VAOW.

Q 5. Is it just about driving?

It is what you make it. You can just enjoy the driving or you can get to know all sorts of people from all walks of life.
