Volunteering Vacancies Within OWCA

Befriending Scheme

Do you have some time during the day to visit housebound people and make their lives a bit more interesting? Just an hour a week could enhance someone else’s life a great deal so if you enjoy a chat, a cup of tea and are a good listener then this volunteering opportunity may be for you. We pay any mileage expenses incurred whilst volunteering for us.

Car Scheme

If you enjoy driving and helping those that are unable to use public transport to get about, then this could be the volunteering opportunity for you. Our Car Scheme takes local people to the shops, doctors, dentist etc and helps them to stay as independent as possible for as long as possible.

We do pay mileage expenses that are incurred whilst volunteering for us so if you feel that you could spare just a couple of hours a week then please contact us.

Mini Bus

We have a 10 seater mini bus that can be hired by local groups and we also arrange outings throughout the year for the local community. We always need volunteer drivers, so if you enjoy driving to a variety of locations and can spare a few hours a week to help, then contact us and become a volunteer.

Toy Libraries

We have several toy libraries and all need volunteers on a regular basis:

South Wigston – based at the Library in Bassett Street and is open Tuesday 9.45am to 11.45am.

Wigston – based at All Saints School in Long Street and is open Monday 3pm to 4pm.

Mobile Toy Library – visiting various schools in Oadby on Tuesdays during lunchtimes, term time only.

Carers Telephone Befriending Scheme

Are you a good listener, do you enjoy having a chat?

If so, you may like to become a Telephone Befriending Volunteer. This opportunity is available in the mornings and will be based at our offices at 132a Station Road in Wigston. It will involve having a chat and offering informal support to carers who are feeling isolated within their homes.
We pay mileage expenses incurred whilst volunteering for us.

For more information on any of the above please contact us on 0116-281 0026

As a Police volunteer you will be a vital link to the local community. No qualifications are needed and all we ask is that you have a friendly approach to members of the public and are able to work well within a team.
Some of the activities you could help us with include Distributing Crime Reduction information, photocopying, filling envelopes, helping at crime prevention road shows, helping with local initiatives, providing public assistance and information.
